Special to the Herald

The public is invited to the first “Turkey Shoot” hosted by American Legion Post 209 of Springfield.

The event is set for Saturday, March 29, beginning at noon and ending “when complete.” Cost is $5 per shot, with proceeds going toward improving Post 209’s facility so it can be made available for community events; and to help local veterans in need, according to Post Commander Tony Zimlich.

The event does not involve hunting or shooting real turkeys.

"The Turkey Shoot at Post 209 is just a target shoot where the shot/pellet closest to the center of the target is the winner," added Post 209 Vice Commander Steve Quinones.

The Turkey Shoot will be held at Post 209, 941 S Laurel St., Springfield. For more information, click on the event Facebook page.
