SPRINGFIELD – The Effingham County Board of Commissioners’ commitment to provide top-notch recreation facilities for its constituents will soon be on display at Baker Park.

A project that includes the renovation of the park’s restroom building, construction of four pickleball courts and installation of asphalt parking areas, ornamental fencing and sidewalks is set to start March 10. A kayak launch, fishing pier and dog park fencing are in the works, too.

The facility will be closed during construction, which is expected to take 260 days. Anticipated completion date is mid-November.

Located at 216 Courthouse Rd., Baker Park ranks second only to the Clarence E. Morgan Complex as the busiest park in the county. Its primary drawing card is the nearly one-mile walking trail around Baker Pond.
