Effingham Health System welcomed its latest addition Monday with a reception for Dr. Xiaofeng “Frank” Zhong.

Zhong, who recently completed his residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center, will practice full-time at Effingham Family Medicine at Goshen.

“Primary care is my passion,” Zhong said. “Hopefully I can do my part to provide Effingham County with the best health care possible.”

With the addition of Zhong, Effingham Family Medicine at Goshen will be able to serve more patients. He joins physician assistant Felicia Kennicott, who has been working full-time at the clinic, and Dr. Mark Mudano, who served patients there on Tuesdays.

“Felicia has been the rock here,” said Dr. James Cornwell, Effingham Health’s chief of staff.

Effingham Family Medicine at Goshen is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

“You won’t lack for business,” Cornwell said. “We have needed help (here) in the area of general practice, family medicine.”

Originally from China, Zhong moved to Augusta to be near his family. His father and grandfather both are physicians.

Zhong graduated from Augusta State University and the Medical College of Georgia prior to his residency in Savannah.

“We have been very deliberate in choosing Dr. Zhong for the Goshen location,” said Norma Jean Morgan, CEO of Effingham Health System. “We’re making good on our promise to offer ‘world-class’ medicine, and we are confident that Dr. Zhong will be welcomed and well-received.”
