Celebration set for opening of new Effingham County Administration Complex

SPRINGFIELD — The public is invited to join Effingham County commissioners on Jan. 4, 2022, at 3 p.m. for the ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony to celebrate the new Effingham County Administration Complex (South Building) at 804 S. Laurel St.

The newly renovated facility is in the same complex as the Renasant Bank and was designed to hold multiple county departments for consolidation of services and to provide additional convenience for residents. Commission meetings will also be held at this new location, starting Jan.18, 2022. 

Development Services, Finance, Human Resources, Purchasing, County Clerk’s Office and Administration departments have all moved into the complex, as well as Georgia Department of Public Health’s Environmental Health Office. 

Residents can visit the complex for those services as well as to attend County Commission meetings, and to sign up for county water and new sanitation services for unincorporated Effingham County addresses.

Two men are in custody after police say one stole an ambulance and led officers on a chase from Rincon to Port Wentworth Monday afternoon. The driver, Dwayne Simmons, 56, of Savannah, faces multiple felony charges. The passenger, Georgell Brown, 51, was charged with loitering after fleeing the scene of an earlier crash. The pursuit ended when the ambulance crashed near Highway 21.
