The City of Springfield announces the resignation of city manager Matt Morris, effective June 13.

“Since assuming the role of Springfield city manager in August 2019, Matt Morris has demonstrated unwavering commitment, professionalism, and a genuine dedication to the city. His contributions have elevated not only our work but also the people and values we stand for,” the city issued in a press release.

“The decision to resign was a personal one for Matt, and while we are saddened to see him leave, we respect his choice and thank him for his dedicated service to the City of Springfield.

“The mayor, council, and staff would like to express our deep respect and appreciation for Matt Morris, whose presence, leadership, and integrity have left a lasting mark on all who have had the privilege of working alongside him,” the release concluded.

The city council has appointed the current assistant city manager, Lauren Eargle, as interim city manager and will begin the process of searching for a permanent replacement.
