ECSO Drug Unit arrests Savannah man for numerous charges

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested a Savannah man for selling drugs.

After an investigation, the ECSO Drug Unit arrested Raphael Williams, 37, of Savannah, July 23 for possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, and driving with a suspended license. Williams was arrested in Rincon and booked into the Effingham County Jail. Jail officers suspected he was hiding drugs within a body cavity.  

An investigation and screening concluded the suspect was hiding a foreign object within his body. Drug investigators and jail officers determined Williams was at risk of serious injury or death and took immediate action to remove the foreign object.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at a local hospital.

The foreign object was removed from within William’s body and was identified as a package of illegal drugs, which included Fentanyl.

Williams received additional charges: possession of Fentanyl, tampering with evidence, crossing state/county lines with drugs, and sale of cocaine.
