ECMS team wins area FFA event
Conduct of Chapter Meeting Team

The Effingham County Middle School FFA recently won the Area 4 FFA Conduct of Chapter Meeting Career Development Event.  The event was held at Southeastern Technical Institute in Swainsboro on Feb. 28.

Team members Colby Malphus, Cassie Sheppard, Addison Lovett, Cassie Deleseleuc, Deena Diaz, Kaitlyn Hadwin, and Gage Jenkins now will participate in state competition on April 27, at the FFA State Convention in Macon.

The state-winning team will advance to national competition held in conjunction with the National FFA Convention in October.

Participants in the event develop leadership skills and learn to effectively participate in business meetings.  The competition includes a written exam, oral questions about assigned motions, the presentation of certain motions, and evaluation of the official meeting minutes recorded by the team secretary.

FFA is a national organization of over 600,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.  FFA is an integral part of the agricultural education program in public schools.

The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Dr. Kendra Brophy is the ECMS FFA advisor.  The Conduct of Chapter Meeting Career Development Event is sponsored by the Georgia Development Authority as a special project of the Georgia FFA Foundation.
