Effingham County Commissioner Reggie Loper, 84, was arrested May 17 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on allegation of misdemeanor sexual battery and child molestation and booked into the Effingham County Jail.

Loper represents District 4 in Effingham County. He was present at the Board of Commissioners regularly scheduled meeting on May 16.

An Effingham County spokesperson released the following statement: “The Effingham County Board of Commissioners is aware of the allegations against Mr. Loper. He has served the county and his constituents well for nearly two decades and we pray for him and his family as they deal with this situation.”
