Taylor Maddox and her family appreciates the community’s support after fire destroyed their home early June 1 while they were on vacation.

“Maybe this was just a dream and I’ll wake up again and realize that everything everybody said was just a lie,” the home’s owner Taylor Maddox, told local TV station WTOC.

Maddox lived in the house on Green Morgan School Road with her fiancé, her grandmother, four children, ages 10, 9 ,7, and 4, and four dogs. Maddox’s sevem-year-old daughter has special needs and lost some of her special-needs devices. The dogs were boarded at the vet and were not hurt.

A GoFundMe account was created by Maddox’s cousin Kristy Dyal and has already raised nearly $7,000.

“‘Thank you’ doesn’t even begin to cover the gratitude that we feel with the overwhelming help that everybody’s trying to give us right now,” said Maddox.

The fire is still under investigation by the Effingham County Fire and Rescue.
