RINCON, Ga. — The City of Rincon is sharing a positive update on mayor Kevin Exley, who rang the cancer bell at the Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion in Savannah, marking the completion of his cancer treatment.

“Thank you to everyone that has supported me through this tough time,” Exley said. “Cancer is something unimaginable because the treatment depletes your body so much. There is light, and God shed that light early or I would not have made it through. Now it’s time to heal my body, mind and get back to work!”

The city shared no other details.

During his recovery, Exley remains fully in control of his duties as mayor, Gena Sullivan, the city’s director of communications, records and special events, said.

“His leadership and commitment to the City of Rincon remain strong and unwavering,” she said.

The Rincon City Council and city staff stand firmly behind Exley and are fully supportive as he focuses on his health, Sullivan said. The entire city team is working in close coordination to ensure continuity of operations and continued progress on city initiatives.

“We are confident in mayor Exley’s strength and determination,” said Mayor Pro Tem Mona Underwood. “He continues to lead with integrity and vision, and we look forward to his full recovery and return to full-time engagement.”
