Basic Drill Team

The South Effingham High School NJROTC was recently designated a Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors for the 2016-2017 school year by the Naval Service Training Command.

The designation is given for a wide variety of accomplishments the Unit attained throughout the year.

The Unit had two Cadets receive ROTC scholarships.

Cadet Michael Garcia received an Air Force ROTC scholarship to Valdosta State while Cadet David Allen received a Navy ROTC scholarship to Tuskegee University.

The Unit is part of NJROTC Area-12, which has nearly 60 schools in the Georgia and North Florida.

All of the teams in the Unit reached the state level Area-12 Championships.

The rifle team won the Area-12 Championship and moved on to the Navy National Championship in Anniston, Alabama where they finished 12th out of more than 300 teams that started the competition.

The drill team had its best year finishing 3rd at the Area-12 Championship and 1st in the state for drill overall.

The academic team finished 7th and the orienteering team 9th.

The unit also completed 2,300 hours of community and school service.
