EVANS, Ga. – South Effingham made the biggest play of the night when it mattered most.
With Evans threatening in the final seconds, Mustangs defensive back Semaj Calhoun intercepted a pass in the end zone with less than 10 seconds left to secure a 14-10 victory Friday.
Quarterback Liam Coburn sparked the South Effingham offense, connecting with Jayden Hair on a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. In the third, Coburn hit Hayden Still on a 73-yard strike that set up his own 2-yard touchdown run.
The win improved the Mustangs to 2-1 in Region play and 2-3 overall, keeping their push for one of the four available region spots in the state playoffs.
“We control our own destiny to make a playoff run,” assistant coach Dustin Neal said.
Evans dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
