The South Effingham Middle School softball team downed Burke County 17-7 last Tuesday in the first semifinal game to move on to the final round.
Cate Anderson went 2-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in two. Kaity White went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, and Amy Jameson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Mallory Ferguson, Brook Strickland, Katie Kussow, Mariah Freeman, Hannah Arrington, Stephanie Hollowell and Kendall Winge all scored a run.
Kussow pitched three innings and did not allow an earned run while striking out three. Rami Mesmer struck out two in two innings.
Also recognized on Tuesday were the departing eighth graders, who included Anderson, Arrington,
Ferguson, Freeman, Jameson, Kussow, White and Winge.
