ECHS FBLA honored with Bronze Chapter Award at conference

The Effingham County High School FBLA chapter was recognized with the Bronze Chapter Award at the State Leadership Conference.

The Effingham County FBLA club attended the State Leadership Conference held in Atlanta on March 26-28. Six students and two advisors attended.  Students competed in Emerging Business Issues, Accounting I, Accounting II, Business Law, and Business Procedures.  

Britney McCrae placed eighth in the Business Law event. The students enjoyed leadership sessions and networking with other FBLA members while at the conference.  

Certificates were also given to Aaron Williams for completing the Business Level of the Business Achievement Awards and to Vanessa Williams and Hannah Boyd for completing the Future Level of the Business Achievement Awards. Another highlight of the conference was being awarded the Bronze Chapter Award. This award is given to FBLA clubs who have completed the recommended activities throughout the school year.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
