Effingham County High School counselors and media specialists will be hosting their first “Apply to College Week,” Jan. 31-Feb. 4. The goal for this event is to provide all Effingham County High School seniors the opportunity to submit at least one application for college admission and someone to assist them as needed to complete the process.

Students should register with Rhonda Shearouse in the ECHS media center for an appointment during the school day to complete an application.

When a student registers, he or she will receive information about the documents they need to bring to the application session. During the 45-minute session, a student can establish a GACollege411 account, apply for the HOPE Scholarship or HOPE Grant, register with the Selective Service (males only), and apply for admission to the college of their choice. Students also can file for a FAFSA PIN number during this time.

Students should come prepared with these items: their social security number, their GTID number (get this from the counselors’ office), the name of the college where they want to apply for admission, a signed transcript request form and a method of payment to cover the college application fee. (No cash. Credit cards work best for online applications.)

Students also should review the application requirements online at home in case statements or essays need to be prepared in advance of the session.
