The Effingham Health System Auxiliary awarded $500 scholarships to two students from Effingham County High School and two from South Effingham High School.

Receiving scholarships at ECHS were Morgan Sansale and Victoria McCumbers. Sansale will be attending Armstrong Atlantic State University and McCumbers will be attending Georgia Southern University.

At South Effingham, scholarships were awarded to Melanie Gibson and Christian Cremo. Gibson will be attending Armstrong Atlantic State University and Cremo will be attending the University of Georgia.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
