Rincon High School class of 1948 held their 60th class reunion at the old home place of Ralph Kessler in Rincon on Oct. 11. The group enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Ralph and Margie Kessler and a day of reminiscing with old friends.

Those attending included Bobby  Zipperer of Rincon, Geraldine Boykin McCray of Savannah, Audrey Pevey Zipperer of Rincon, Dorine Helmly Hinely of Port Wentworth, Eugene “Pete” Lancaster of Springfield and Ralph Kessler of Garden City.

Members of the class who were absent included William H. Hall, Earl Ellis, Deloris Powell Glisson, Faye Hinely Waldhour, Harry C. Sims and Robert H. Oglesby.

Deceased members of the class of 17 members are Kermit Dickerson, Robert Lee Wendelken, Randall Waldhour, Claudine Exley Rowland and Nora Lee Carter.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
