SEHS NJROTC drill team excels at Nease drill meet

The South Effingham NJROTC drill team enjoyed success during the recent inter-service drill meet at Nease High School in St. Augustine, Fla. Nov. 1.

SEHS was among 20 schools from Georgia and Florida area to compete in various events such as drill, academics, athletics and a personnel inspection.

The basic drill team commanded by Cadet Lt. Commander Devin Goforth competed in armed and unarmed drill. The team placed fourth in armed and fifth in unarmed. The expedition drill team also competed in armed and unarmed drill placed second in both events. The expedition drill team was led by Cadet Ens. Justin Lawson.

The Mustang drill team dominated athletic events by placing first in pushups and sit-ups. Lawson placed first in pushups and sit-ups out of all the cadets that competed in the drill meet.

The cadets also ran in a 16x100 meter race where they placed first and they also placed third in the 8x220. The cadets placed first overall in athletics and they also placed sixth on an academic test that tested the cadet’s knowledge on history, chemistry, politics, current events and math. The color guard was led by Cadet Lt. (JG) Keith Jonas and placed sixth overall.
