The second annual Effingham County Barbecue Cookoff is coming to the Effingham County Fairgrounds on April 16.
The competition is open and team captains must be 18 or older.

Entrants may compete in all or part of the categories — pork ribs, chicken (no Cornish hens), pork butt, beef brisket, Brunswick stew and barbecue sauce(s).

Each team will supply its own raw meat — no marinading or pre-cooking is allowed — ingredients, spices, cooker, utensils, table(s), tent(s), chairs, fuel, and any other non-prohibited item the team deems necessary.

Each team will be furnished with an information packet with judging procedures, sample score sheet, and sample submission container(s). No markings or identification is allowed on submission containers.  These will be anonymously tagged and recorded at the time of submission by a third party.

All teams will supply a fire extinguisher and have it readily handy at all times.

All teams must comply with safe food handling procedures and all applicable rules and regulations of the Effingham County Health Department. Quantities of samples to be submitted will be a sufficient amount to accommodate six judges, twice if required in the event of a tie.

Teams may set up on Friday evening or Saturday morning, as you wish. There will be no on-site security overnight.

A $30 entry fee will be collected at check-in. Proceeds will benefit “Hope For Savannah.”

Submit completed forms to: Muther’s BBQ, 508 Lexington Ave., Rincon, Ga 31326; or fax to 826-2738; or email Turcottes@live.com.
