Human resource leaders, managers and small business owners are invited to answer that question by attending Georgia Southern University’s “LAW 105: Best Practices in Running Background and Reference Checks” seminar on May 12 in Brunswick.

One in the quarterly series of Legal Awareness in the Workplace (LAW) seminars, LAW 105 will be taught by employment law attorney Sarah Lamar of Hunter MacLean. She will discuss the Fair Credit Reporting Act and its recent amendments, as well as how to meet Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) anti-discrimination requirements in pre-hire and post-employment background checks and investigations.

Seminar registrations will be accepted until noon May 6. The University offers a discounted corporate rate for four or more from the same firm.

Running from 6-7:30 p.m. at the College of Coastal Georgia, the seminar provides 1.5 recertification credit hours for professionals with any of the three Professional in Human Resources certifications: PHR, Senior PHR or Global PHR.

Register for the $59 seminar by calling Georgia Southern’s Continuing Education Center at (912) 478-5551 or online at http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted.
