Chocolate-covered espresso beans recalled

Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgians to the recall of some chocolate covered espresso beans.

Harry and David is recalling approximately 66,500 eight-ounce bags of Chocolate Covered Select Blend Espresso Beans with “Best if used by” dates after 8/28/05, which were sold prior to April 5, because they contain milk without listing it on the ingredient label.  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The “Best if used by” date is located in the lower right hand corner of the nutrition label on the back of the bag. Bags subject to this recall do not have a “Contains milk, soy” statement on the nutrition label. These products are packaged in clear plastic bags, tied at the top with a tan ribbon.

The product was made by Sanders Candy Factory, Inc., Baldwin Park, Calif. It was distributed throughout the U.S. under the Harry and David brand only in Harry and David stores.

Consumers who have purchased the product may return it to any Harry and David retail store for a full refund.

Consumers with questions about the recalled product may call the Harry and David customer service division at (800) 233-1101.
