Salvation Army hosts recital Sunday

The Salvation Army announces its third recital for the conservatory of performing arts on June 14 at 3 p.m. at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center located at 3000 Bee Rd.

Join the Salvation Army in celebration of the great accomplishments of its Conservatory. There will be presentations from its guitar, vocal, dance, brass, drama, woodwinds, percussion, piano and visual arts.

In recent years, the Savannah Community has experienced a loss of the symphony orchestra and the school system has drastically cut the budgets for visual and performing arts.

There is much concern about the future of the arts in this historical area. The economy has deteriorated and performing arts lessons have become a luxury that many cannot afford.

The Salvation Army, along with its partners in the community — The Gretsch Company, Portman’s, Friends of Music, Savannah Music Festival and many individual that have a love for fine arts — have partnered together to bring affordable professional art lessons to our community.

With the economy forcing families to focus on the basics of life, a need has risen for an arts program that can be accessible financially by anyone of the community.

Costs are only $60 per 10 week quarter. Various clinics will be offered during the summer and the fall schedule will begin the first week in September.
