Youth Activities during camp meeting

The 229th Annual Effingham County United Methodist Camp Meeting begins with worship under the tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Services run through Aug. 22.

Youth camps are held for different age groups. Applications for youth programs and information about services, meals and activities can be found by visiting Effingham County Methodist Campground on Facebook or on the web at effinghamcampground.com.

In years gone by, each family loaded all that they would need for a week and moved into “tents” on the campgrounds. In the early days, this included bringing chickens and cows, as well as food and firewood, to stay for a week.

Nowadays, some families still have buildings on the campground called “tents." They usually consist of a wood, concrete block or metal building with a center wide dining/hallway, kitchen area and sleeping quarters for men and women on each side.

With modern transportation, many are day trippers to the camp meeting. A few still spend the nights, including a faithful group at the Rahn Tent.

The camp meeting is a time to renew your spiritual connection, have fellowship with old and new friends, and enjoy music and singing. Everyone is invited to attend.

Evening services are at 7:30 with special music ahead of services at 6:30 Sunday evening.

Come “get some old time religion”. You will be glad you did.
