Historic Effingham Society will feature its oldest member, 99-year-old Mrs. Willie Tebeau, in a fireside chat with some of her family members as the program for its annual banquet on Feb. 7.

According to HES member Susan Exley, “Mrs. Willie is a remarkable lady with a sharp keen mind and she is still interested in everything that is going on around her in her family, community, church and our world. She will be able to inform us of the many changes that she has seen over the years in: transportation, communications, entertainment, living conditions and much more. Mrs. Willie has survived The Depression, lived through war and peace and is willing to share from her wisdom. Come and see what Mrs. Willie recalls of Effingham’s earlier days. It is sure to be an entertaining evening.”

Historic Effingham Society will hold its annual banquet on Feb. 7, in the great hall at New Ebenezer Retreat Center. Social time begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. Dinner is by advance tickets only — $20 on sale at Effingham Museum, 1002 North Pine St. in Springfield or from members. Tickets must be purchased no later than noon Feb. 2. You may mail a check or money order requesting tickets no later than Jan. 29 to: Historic Effingham Society, P.O. Box 999, Springfield, GA 31329.  Call 754-2170 or 826-4705 for further information.
