First Federal Savings and Loan was a branch of First Federal Savings and Loan of Sylvania and it opened in Springfield on Dec. 20, 1974.

The savings and loan was located in the former Mars Theatre building. The Mars Theatre was in operation from the late 1940s until 1957. The building remained vacant until First Federal renovated it.

The building was owned by the children of the late Harry N. Ramsey. Jack E. Ramsey was the vice president of the home office and managed the branch in Springfield. Yolanda Bota was employed by the business when it opened as assistant manager.

As of Dec. 31, 1975, the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Sylvania reported assets of $8,475,182.38, including the Springfield branch assets.
