The Rincon Fire Department held its annual boot drive in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Sept. 10, tying in their efforts with the 9/11 anniversary instead of the usual Labor Day collection.
The department took in more than $5,200, along with the $800 they collected during the Springfield Independence Day fireworks show. Kids also got a fireman’s helmet and got to sit at the wheel of the department’s ladder truck, and more than 75 kids did so, according to Chief Corey Rahn.
