Finding A Cure for Childhood Cancer event held at ECHS

A large crowd turned out Saturday and donated an even larger sum of money at Effingham County High School for the 7th Annual Sisters on a Journey Fundraiser, an event that occurs each year to help raise money for Cure Childhood Cancer.

Money is raised in various ways, including raffles, silent auctions and more.

The event is as important as any fundraiser because childhood cancer research does not receive the amount of funds it should.

In the first year of the fundraiser, organizers were able to raise $5,000 - in 2016, they raised over $200,000 across three events.

Jenny Wilkins and her husband started the fundraiser in 2011 after losing their four-year-old daughter, Catie, to cancer in 2007.

The goal for Saturday night’s fundraiser was $100,000.
