The Effingham YMCA’s pool will be home to hundreds of rubber ducks in a few weeks.
The YMCA and the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for the first Effingham Duck Races, to be held Nov. 12. The ducks are available for $5 each or five can be purchased for $20.
Prizes for winning ducks include two YMCA memberships, a weekend for two at the King and Prince Resort on St. Simons Island and prize packages from Fuller Chevrolet and Comcast.
There also will be a kiddie duck race, said Effingham Y executive director Kim Dennis.
“You can buy a white duck and paint it and we’ll put them in the kiddie pool to race,” she said. “It should be a fun family day.”
The only ducks that will be put into the pool are those that have been bought, Chamber Executive Director Rick Lott said. The maximum number of ducks to be dropped into the pool is 3,000.
Prizes to the top 10 finishing ducks will be awarded and winners don’t need to be present to win.
