ENDOR — Walt Disney Studios and LucasFilm made a big announcement Thursday. The highly anticipated seventh installment of the Star Wars franchise has an official title.

The studios announced that the films has finished principal photography and will be titled, "Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens."

Ever since the announcement that Episode VII was moving forward, rumors started flying. First was who was going to direct, then who would be cast and of course what would the title be. Both the director and cast were named some time ago, but the title of the film has been a mystery until now.

Back in May a rumor started that the subtitle would be "The Ancient Fear." The reaction to that was mixed, but it was all moot considering the announcement that's now been made.

Now plot speculation will begin about how the force has been in some sort of limbo for decades and has now been awakened, but by good or evil forces?

"Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens" is due in theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
