Miss Nellie Arnsdorff celebrates 102 years
Nellie Arnsdorff 102

On Feb. 21, the Guyton Christian Church sponsored the Effingham Extended Care Facility residents who have February birthdays – Miss Nellie was the only resident that was able to attend and celebrated her 102nd birthday.

She was very emotional when she was shown the beautifully decorated cake. Along with the icing off of her piece of cake, she also enjoyed one of her favorite desserts – strawberry ice cream.

As an independent woman, she was determined to feed herself ice cream and cake icing with no assistance.

She has always enjoyed eating sweets and at 102 years of age, she deserves to eat what she enjoys.

Guyton Christian Church presented her with several gifts as well. When she was shown a wooden cross, she held it close to her heart. She was always given a chain of prayer beads, which she also held close.

Her oldest niece, Libby A. Heidt, was honored to be there with her to celebrate her birthday. Miss Nellie turned 102 on Tuesday.

“She is a strong Christian woman who has always shown her love for the Lord and to those around her,” Heidt said. “I feel it such a privilege to have family like her.”
