The Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeeper met with canoe and kayak enthusiasts for a trip down the Ogeechee River recently, launching from the steel bridge here in Effingham County and ending at a private landing near Blitchton. The trip took about four hours and everyone brought their own lunch to enjoy on the sandbars of the river. Participants made several stops to swim and enjoy the beauty of the black waters and the white sand bars.

The Riverkeeper has a series of paddle trips planned on the Ogeechee and Canoochee rivers and along the coast for 2009 and anyone interested for trips on Oct. 31 and Nov. 21 can register at www.ocrk.org under the calendar or call Dianna Wedincamp at 764-2017. Volunteers are needed.
