SPRINGFIELD – Even though the Effingham County Animal Shelter is high and dry today, Tropical Storm Debby is still impacting it.
“We are getting lots of calls about people finding animals, missing animals, and wanting to bring in animals,” said Faith Williamson, a shelter assistant.
Currently, the shelter, due to its capacity, is unable to take animals in except in emergency cases.
“Our main concern for the next couple of days to the next of couple weeks is public safety,” Williamson said. “We aren’t taking in any animals in unless they are sick, injured or, of course, being aggressive toward others. We are going to need people to work with us during this time.”
As always, the shelter is eager to serve as a link to reconnect owners with pets that have been lost or found.
“We ask people to share pet information with us so that we can post it (on the shelter Facebook page),” Williamson said. “We send it to Humane Enforcement as well. That way it gets more exposure (on social media).
“We are working together on that.”
Lost or found animals can also be shared on social media pages such as “Lost and Found Pets in Effingham County” Facebook page.
The shelter, located at 307 GA Hwy 119 South, can be reached at 912-754-2109 or animalshelter@effinghamcounty.org.
