Back the Blue Rally slated Oct. 25
Effingham Heroes

RINCON — A fledgling organization called Effingham Heroes is set to present a Back the Blue Rally at Freedom Park on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m..

Plans for the rally are ongoing. The 12-member Effingham Heroes Board of Directors will meet via Zoom on Tuesday night to discuss a program.

“It’s for all (law enforcement agencies in) Effingham County — Rincon, Guyton, Springfield and, of course, the sheriff’s office — and it’s for the first responders,” too, said Susie Davis, the impetus behind the rally. “They are going to bring their vehicles down there and form a circle. People will be able to get in the middle.

“The vehicles will have their lights on, which will be effective. Nobody else around here has done that and I want us to be different.”

Davis received approval of the use of Freedom Park from the Rincon City Council during its Sept. 28 meeting.

“The purpose of this is to show support and foster community respect for our first responders, (firefighters), police, EMS and dispatch (personnel),” she told the council. “It’s inclusive. It’s to include every one of them.”

Davis hopes to have blue bulbs to sell at the rally. A blue porch light conveys a message of respect and solidarity for all officers and their families. The Herald will furnish additional rally details soon.

“There will be a couple speakers, maybe even entertainment, but it will be kept to a minimum.”
