Beloved Effingham Hospital Auxiliary member dies in Springfield accident

SPRINGFIELD — Effingham Health System Auxiliary member Margie Sullivan died Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Laurel Street.

Sullivan, 82, had served Effingham Hospital since it opened in 1969. She was honored during several of the hospital’s golden anniversary events in 2019.

In a Facebook post, Effingham Health System said, “Our collective thanks and prayers go out for Ms. Margie, along with her family and friends. She set an amazing, humanitarian example with her service for our community. Her loss will be deeply felt by all of us at Effingham Health System!”

Visitation is set Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Springfield. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., also at First Baptist Church of Springfield. 

Interment will follow in the Springfield Cemetery Annex.
