Right-of-way acquisition and the final design and permitting process for the Benton Boulevard expansion project in Chatham County are underway.
The SPLOST-funded project will extend Benton Boulevard from Highlands Boulevard to Ga. Hwy 30. It will include a two-lane road with a bridge at St. Augustine Creek and a culvert at Little Hearst Branch.
It will also include roadway drainage, a shared-use path and intersection improvements at Highlands, Meinhard and Ga. Hwy 30.
Chatham County officials say the final plans are expected to be ready in May or June and the construction will start shortly afterward.
