Effingham Chamber of Commerce representatives help Linda Purnell cut the ribbon on the Old Church Market Restaurant.
 
The restaurant, located in a former church, is at 120 N. Columbia Ave. in Rincon. Purnell said it had been a dream of her husband to have a restaurant, and when they saw this building available, she said, “it was so beautiful, we just had to open here.”
 
The Old Church Market Restaurant specializes in Southern style, self service, country buffet cooking.
 
Restaurant hours are: Sundays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; and closed on Saturdays. For more information, call (912) 295-5667 or email theoldchurchmarketrestaurant@gmail.com.

Effingham County commissioners honored local youth athletes Tuesday, recognizing the GRPA state champion softball team and state track meet finalists with a proclamation declaring Aug. 9 as “Effingham Champions Day.”
