ATLANTA – Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp announced that Virginia Transformer Corp. will invest $40 million to expand its manufacturing facility near Rincon, creating more than 400 new jobs in Effingham County. The facility operates as Georgia Transformer.
“Along with state and local leaders, we’re proud to celebrate this major expansion and Virginia Transformer’s decision to double down on Georgia,” Kemp said. “This is the latest testament to the impact of our partnership approach. We congratulate Virginia Transformer on this exciting announcement and look forward to the benefits it will bring to Rincon and Effingham County.”
Advanced manufacturing in Effingham County
The Georgia Transformer facility in Rincon specializes in custom-designed large power transformers for utilities, data centers, renewable energy and other industries. The 250,000-square-foot facility produces transformers ranging from 30 to 500 megavolt-amperes at up to 525 kilovolts. This is the latest in a series of investments since the facility joined Virginia Transformer in 2015.“Virginia Transformer’s expansion in Effingham County is especially welcome as our region faces the aftermath of recent mill closures and the loss of good-paying jobs,” said Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns. “We are grateful for the company’s commitment to Georgia and look forward to the new job opportunities this project will create.”
“Virginia Transformer is the largest U.S.-owned producer of power transformers in North America, and we’ve grown by focusing on delivering for our customers,” said Prabhat Jain, Virginia Transformer CEO.

The Georgia Transformer plant is located at 2789 Ga. 21 in Effingham County. Construction on the expansion is expected to begin in January 2026.
