Christmas in Effingham took place for the second year on Saturday.

The evening program had performances by the South Effingham Elementary School Chorus and a Community Choir directed by Susan Hartzog.

Butch Kieffer welcomed those in attendance, and Rincon Mayor Ken Lee led the prayer for the event.

Evan Hartzog read the “Christmas Story” followed by lighting of candles led by county commission Chairperson Verna Phillips. The crowd sang carols with the choir.

Springfield Mayor Barton Alderman asked representatives from the other municipalities to assist him in lighting the Christmas tree.

Santa came at the end of the program, and children in attendance were able to make their requests for Christmas.
