GUYTON -- Tamia Cope was named homecoming queen during halftime of South Effingham's football game against Richmond Hill on Friday.

Cope was joined in the homecoming court by first runner-up Marissa Taylor and second runner-up Kaley Stone.

Eight veterans from Effingham County were among 22 veterans who made a memorable, emotional journey to Washington, D.C., as part of Honor Flight Savannah. The trip, which included visits to iconic memorials like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, gave veterans a chance to reflect on their service and connect with their past in a deeply moving experience.
