ST. SIMONS ISLAND -- Wesley Corbitt isn't a fan of big government. He doesn't like little government, either.

Corbitt, chairman of the Effingham County Commission, is trying for form a government that is just right for the needs of Effingham County residents and businesses.

"My mission, and I think it's our board's mission, is to provide efficient and responsive government that supports quality of life ....," Corbitt said during Friday's 2017 Effingham County Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Retreat at The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort. "We don't want too much government. We don't want to small of a government."

One way Corbitt is seeking to achieve his mission is by simplifying the process of gaining county approval for property development.

"We are looking at how we can improve that and make it better," he said.
