RINCON — During its July 12 meeting, the Rincon City Council appointed Jesse “Ben” Blackwell to fill the vacancy left by Ann Daniel.

Blackwell was the vice chairman of the Rincon Planning and Zoning Board.

Daniel resigned last month with six months left in her four-year term. She cited the inability to attend council functions as the basis for her decision.

“Basically, she was going to be out of town for an extended period of time — probably eight to ten months,” Mayor Ken Lee said after the June 29 council meeting. “She just didn’t feel like it was fair to the council to not be present for that amount of time.”

The board tabled the the matter of Daniel’s successor during the June 28 meeting after briefly discussing Blackwell, Peggy Cowan and Paul Wendelken. Cown is a Planning and Zoning Board member, and Wendelken is a former council member
