County tries to find remedy for ash roads

It will take more than one method to repair and restore Effingham County’s ash roads, county commissioners learned.

The county has about 250 ash roads, covering approximately 153 miles. County civil engineer Toss Allen said the public works department, in a survey of the ash roads, categorized the damage to those roads as either severe, moderate or minimal. Twenty of the roads, which cover a total of 33 miles, were classified as severely damaged.

Allen pointed out that not all of that distance covered by those roads was severely damaged.
