Effingham County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Guyton man Wednesday morning after he failed to register as a sex offender.
Jason Brown, 28, of Guyton, was wanted by deputies after failing to register as a sex offender. When deputies attempted to serve a warrant at a Goshen Road address, he fled on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot chase after Brown toward a nearby woodline, according to ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.
He has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Brown is being held in the Effingham County Jail without bond.
He was cited in January for failing to report as a registered sex offender and was released from jail a month later on a bond set by a judge. Brown was convicted of a 2000 statutory rape in Effingham and sentenced to seven years. He was released from the Coffee Correctional Facility last August.
