Three commercial burglary suspects are in custody following an early morning burglary Wednesday at the El Cheapo gas station at Highway 17 and Midland Road in Effingham County.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location on a report of an alarm. Deputies discovered the business had been burglarized and several items were taken.

According to ECSO reports, a patrol deputy observed two individuals walking in the area a short time later. One suspect, Brandon Ennis, 18, of Guyton, was taken into custody and the other fled on foot in a wooded area. After a search, two additional suspects were apprehended.

An alert citizen observed Ronald Jones, 25, of Guyton, in the area and notified an off duty sheriff’s deputy who was at the Sandhill Country Store on Sandhill Road. Jones was taken into custody at that location.

Sheriff’s investigators located the third suspect, Shawn Cannaday, 20, of Guyton, walking on Heidt Landing Road, where he was taken into custody.

Deputies recovered some of the items taken in the burglary along with a hammer which was used to gain entry.

Ennis, Cannaday and Jones have been charged with commercial burglary and criminal trespass.
