A Rincon husband and wife were arrested on charges of viewing and circulating child pornography from a computer in their home.

Michael Allan Shepard, 38, and Rebekah Faith Shepard, 32, were each charged with sexual exploitation of children and possession of tools during the commission of a crime.

Michael Shepard was taken into custody Tuesday night and his wife turned herself in to authorities Wednesday morning after she was able to arrange care for the couple’s two young children, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

During a three-month investigation, the ECSO’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force determined child pornography was being downloaded and shared from a computer in the Shepards’ home.

Task force investigators searched the house at 304 Buckfield Lane on Tuesday evening and found several images of child pornography on a laptop computer. The pornographic photos and videos were of children as young as 6 years old, said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

“Our investigation determined that (Michael and Rebekah Shepard) are the only two individuals with access to that computer,” Ehsanipoor said.

Along with photos and videos that were easily accessible on the computer, Ehsanipoor said, investigators conducted a forensic analysis of the laptop and were able to retrieve several more images of child porn that had been deleted.

Effingham County Chief Magistrate Scott Hinson set a $65,000 bond each for Michael and Rebekah Shepard. Both bonded out of the Effingham County Jail on Wednesday night.
