Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a wanted sex offender who failed to register late Thursday evening.

Darrell Maurice Sanders, 41, of Springfield, was arrested at a residence on Mockingbird Drive by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office. He had provided false information on his employment status after he registered with the ECSO.

Sanders has been charged with one count failure to register as a sex offender. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has a full time sex offender tracking unit that is dedicated to track all sex offenders and ensure they abide by Georgia state law.

“The goal of this unit is to ensure the public’s safety and to enforce state law on sex offender registration,” said Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie.

Sanders is being held in the Effingham County Jail without bond.
