Fake drugs land three men in jail

Three people are in custody for selling imitation ecstasy to undercover agents with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators wrapped up their investigation Tuesday afternoon following an investigative stop on Highway 17 near Roebling Road.
Thomas Allen Snellings, 28, of Pooler has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a counterfeit substance, conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful use of communication facilities, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Erik Santee Smith, 30, of Savannah and Charles Clifford Berry Jr., 29, of Pooler, both have been charged with possession with intent to distribute a counterfeit substance, conspiracy to commit a crime, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Deputies later discovered that the suspects sold them over the counter cold medications that were presented as ecstasy.

All three are being held in the Effingham County Jail.

On Monday, Rincon Police arrested a Chatham County Jail guard and charged him with several counts of crimes against children.

James Brown was taken into custody and charged with three counts of child molestation and three counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to Rincon Police Chief Mike Bohannon.
