A hit and run suspect wanted by Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies has turned himself in after saying he saw himself on the news.

Tony Tripoldi, 35, of Springfield, was charged with two counts of failure to notify owner of striking an unattended vehicle.

Shortly after midnight on June 19 deputies responded to the Chevron gas station at Highways 21 and 275 on a report of a hit and run. Store surveillance shows Tripoldi making a purchase, getting into his vehicle, and striking two parked cars before fleeing the scene.

Tripoldi told deputies he went to the gas station and apologized prior to turning himself in to authorities.

Tripoldi was released on $1,000 bond.
