The Effingham County Board of Commissioners was presented with a plaque in recognition of their support of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

Coastal Workforce Investment Board member Michael King was in attendance to make the presentation to Commission Chairman Dusty Ziegler.

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Nearly 800 youth in the nine county region served by Coastal Workforce Services participated in the program.

Of those youth participating, 56 were in Effingham County.

The mission of Coastal Workforce Services and the Coastal Workforce Board is to guide and assist Coastal Georgia communities in all efforts to develop, promote, support and sustain a globally competitive workforce. The funding for Workforce Investment Act programs is received through the Georgia Department of Labor from the U.S. Department of Labor and then allocated to the local workforce investment boards throughout the state.

Other board members representing Effingham County are David Atkins and Brent Fisher.
