Early voting numbers trail primary turnout

ATLANTA — Early in-person voting ended Friday for Tuesday’s primary runoff.

While mail-in absentee ballots can still be cast until the polls close Tuesday evening, the majority of early votes have been cast.

Statewide numbers on the primary runoff:
Ballots cast: 159,152
Ballots voted in person: 134,267
Mail-in ballots returned: 24,885
Mail-in ballots outstanding: 12,717
Ballots cast, Republican: 121,678
Ballots cast, Democratic: 36,677
Ballots cast, nonpartisan: 797

State early voting numbers for May 20 primary:
Ballots cast: 239,281
Ballots voted in person: 214,975
Mail-in ballots returned: 24,306
Mail-in ballots outstanding: 14,385
Ballots cast, Republican: 147,995
Ballots cast, Democratic: 88,316
Ballots cast, non-partisan: 2,970

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at all Effingham County polling places.
